Senior Tea in the Sukkah
Join Weinstein JCC and community seniors for a special Sukkot program with Cantor Helfman including singing, stories and dessert in the Sukkah.  All seniors (60+) welcome.  Bring a bag lunch and join us at Noon on Monday, October 5th for lunch and socializing.

It’s Not Too Late to Sign Up for Melton!
Melton is designed to provide an intellectually stimulating, pluralistic learning environment using classic Jewish sources from Biblical through contemporary texts and to investigate issues of Jewish thought, practice and ethics.  It includes four courses taken over two years.  They are Rhythms of Jewish Living, Purposes of Jewish Living, Ethics of Jewish Living, and Dramas of Jewish Living. Plus it's fun! The cost per year is $450 and $825 for a couple.

The Florence Melton Adult Mini-School is sponsored by the Weinstein JCC with a generous grant from the Jewish Community Federation of Richmond.

Classes will be offered on Tuesday evenings at 7:15 p.m. beginning October 5th at the Weinstein JCC.  Space is limited so anyone who is interested or for further information about the Melton Mini-School or the Melton Scholarship Fund, please contact KB Levin at 545-8657 or klevin@weinsteinjcc.org.

JCC Maccabi Games® 2010 Sports Commissioners and Coaches Needed
We are looking for volunteer Commissioners and Coaches for the 2010 JCC Maccabi Games® that are coming to Richmond next summer. These are just a few of the many volunteers that we will need for the Games when we host August 1 – 6, 2010. The following is information about the role and responsibility of each of these positions:

  • Sports Commissioners are the experts in their sport and ensure the integrity of the competition. They work with staff to facilitate all aspects of the tournament.
  • Coaches work in conjunction with the Delegation Head to recruit and select their team. They schedule practices to prepare their team for the competition and are also chaperones for their team the week of the games.

Richmond will be offering the following sports: Baseball, Basketball, Bowling, Dance, Soccer, Swimming, Table Tennis and Tennis. For more information, contact Scott Katz, Games Director, at 545-8644 or skatz@weinsteinjcc.org.

School’s Out Day!

New Show in the Sara D. November Art Gallery
The Sara D. November Art Gallery will host the opening of a show by Artist, Avrum I. Ashery at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 15th.  Mr. Ashery will be showing Judaic Calligraphic Designs and Oil Paintings. The show will run through November 20th.

Parenting Forum
Weinstein JCC members are invited to attend a seminar on “Rough & Tumble Play” for preschoolers at the Parenting Forum on Monday, October 19th, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.  Alex Ginsberg, MA in Counseling Psychology with a focus in Drama Therapy, will lead a workshop around the theme of Rough & Tumble play.  The topic will be explored from many developmental perspectives including, but not limited to, emotional, cognitive, psychosocial and physical.  Free to Weinstein JCC preschool parents and Weinstein JCC members.  Non-member fee is $15 per person.

Senior Boat Cruise Coming Up!
Seniors will enjoy a boat cruise on the canal downtown and luncheon at an area restaurant on Wednesday, October 21st at 12:00 p.m.  Contact Shari Menlowe-Barck for details at 545-8611.

MahJong/Bridge Game Day!
Sunday, October 25th, Weinstein JCC/Beth Sholom Auxiliary Game Day – Bring your friends and your game.  We supply the rest.  Game day fun time includes snacks, table rental, a hot lunch and door prizes.  Cost is $28 for both members and non-members.  Tables open at 10:00 a.m.  RSVP by Monday, October 19th to Adrienne Goldberg at 741-7619 or Harriet Horowitz at 754-4441. Community Senior Expo Day
Community-wide senior program for adults, caregivers and those wanting information on senior topics, agencies and products.  There will be over 30 vendors and great lecturers from 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Monday, October 26th at the Weinstein JCC.  Health screenings and flu shots will be available.

Family Gym Night!
Come join a FUN, hour-long opportunity to bond, exercise and play with your children on Wednesday, October 28th. With organized & interactive games lead by our Physical Education Coordinator you can get active & stay healthy with your kids. The fun begins at 6:00 p.m. in the Marjorie and David Arenstein Gymnasium so come & join us! Studies show families that play together, stay together. Club Friendship – An After School Program for Special Needs
Club Friendship is all about having fun with your friends and making some new ones! This club meets Wednesdays and Fridays from 3:30 – 6:00 p.m. It is designed especially for Middle School students with special needs.
