The Dora L. Lewis Family & Child Development Center offers fully licensed preschool programs serving children ages 2-5. The preschool has been accredited by NAEYC since 1987. Children attend preschool from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and may extend their day be enrolling in early morning (7:30 – 9:00 a.m.) or afternoon (12:00 – 6:00 p.m.) childcare programs. A 9:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Pre K class is also available for 4 & 5 year olds. Preschool classes meet 2, 3, or 5 days per week.
The Weinstein JCC Preschool’s classrooms are alive with investigation, collaboration, and creativity. Incorporating the Reggio Emilia approach into the very heart of our programs provides an experience that shapes not only children’s knowledge and skill, but also their attitudes about learning and intellectual curiosity. This is a journey that teachers and children take together, requiring the teachers to connect with their children’s interests and follow their lead. The preschool program also provides a unique curriculum for the teaching of ethics to young children. An Ethical Start™ is based on the text of Pirkei Avot (Ethics of the Fathers) a classic Jewish text on ethics. With its focus on responsibility, dignity, kindness, community, tradition and respect, relevant teaching opportunities present themselves readily.
