MACCABI 2007!!!!

The Weinstein JCC has been invited to participate in the 2007 JCC Maccabi Games^® in
Houston, TX
August 5th - 10th

The JCC Maccabi Games^® is an international Olympic-style event that is held annually in order to help contribute to the enrichment of Jewish identity and foster Jewish continuity for Jewish teenage youth.  At the same time, the Games foster a cultural exchange, help athletes achieve pride in their region or country, participate in community service projects and promote physical fitness and sportsmanship.  This year marks the 25^th anniversary of this very special event! Over the past years, we have sent delegations to Phoenix, Vancouver, Canada, Boston, Washington D.C., Palisades NJ and Boca Raton. We even hosted the Games here in Richmond in 2000 and 2005.

The games are open to all Jewish teens ages 13-16 as of July 31^st, 2007. Our invitation allows 44 Richmond athletes to attend the Games and compete against other Jewish athletes from around the globe. This year the Richmond Delegation will be sending athletes who can choose to participate in the following sports:

Team Sports

Boy’s Soccer: Tryouts to be held on March 4^th at SCOR @ 8pm

Girl’s Soccer: Tryouts to be held on March 4^th at SCOR @  8pm

Boy’s Basketball: Tryouts held on February 26^th at 8pm at the Weinstein JCC

Girl’s Basketball: Tryouts held on February 26^th at 8pm at the Weinstein JCC

Individual Sports

Individual sport participation is on a first come first serve basis.

Golf                  Swimming              Table Tennis               

Bowling            Dance                    Tennis

The cost to participate in the JCC Maccabi Games^® is $1,300 for Weinstein JCC members and $1,600 for non-members. A $400 deposit is required to participate in team sport tryouts and to secure your spot as an individual sport athlete. The deadline to register to be a part of this year’s Games is March 9^th, 2007.

It is our hope here at the Weinstein JCC that at some point all Jewish teens in the area will experience the JCC Maccabi Games^® at least once in their lifetime. So if you have a child who is between the ages of 13-16 please contact Jim Nolan @ 804-545-8637 for more information about the games and how you can give your child a week he or she will remember for a lifetime.
